November 1st is the annual day of the Scorpio Races where men ride water horses hungry for their flesh and that of the other racers. Let the races begin!
A great retelling of water horse mythology. You love them, or at least love Corr, and have a very healthy fear of them at the same time. The story is told from the point of view of Puck (Kate) and Sean. Both are entered in the races and have their own reasons for needing to win. Both are somewhat on the fringes of Thisby society. Friendship starts, romance blossoms, now all they have to do is survive and win the races. Only problem: only one of them can win.
My new favorite by Maggie Stiefvater: no swearing, no sex, just bloodthirsty horses and an interesting cast of characters.
